M Bliss (subcontract Brickwork) Ltd was established in 1981 by former bricklayer Michael Bliss to provide a labour only brickwork service throughout the midland’s region.
37 years later the business is still run by the Bliss family, proudly boasting that the business still bears the same name it bore from day one and with some of the original bricklayers still employed today.
Based in Northampton the company has achieved a steady growth over its 37-year existence, to become one of the leading brickworks and scaffold contractors in the Midlands, with a current turnover of approximately £3 million and growing, attributed to our commitment to providing a quality of service unrivalled within the industry.
During this time, we have earned a reputation within our industry for our versatility, supplying the increasingly preferred trend towards a more complete brickwork sub-contractors’ package, including all labour, plant, sundry materials and scaffolding, whilst still providing for the more traditional “labour only” masonry package or any combination that is required.
The current management team benefits from being a mix of professionals and tradesmen with varied backgrounds, including bricklayers, site managers, contracts managers, and quantity surveyors all with a wealth of experience in all sectors of construction.
Lead by Mick Bliss, the company is enhancing its dynamic approach by injecting an eagerness to be the very best in its field. An experienced but young management team has been selected over the last few years to provide the professionalism required in this increasing demanding sector and have an unrivalled reputation for delivering a product second to none.
At M. Bliss (Subcontract Brickwork) Ltd we are a team, and a very good team at that. We all enjoy working together and form a very strong unit. A team that worked hard to take the company to where it is today and continues to strive to get to where it wants to be tomorrow. The key to success is teamwork.
We currently employ over 40 bricklayers and labourers, 4 telescopic forklift drivers, 10 scaffolders and numerous ancillary site staff throughout the Midlands. This enables us to deliver a first-class service wherever it is required from our head office, ideally located in Northampton.
However, we believe our future not only lies with our current experienced labour force but with the continued training of young bricklayers and to this end we are continually undergoing an apprentice programme where young people are given the opportunity to work alongside qualified tradesmen whilst attending a college programme in conjunction with the CITB.
The projects that we are currently working on include a 108-housing development for Bloor Homes with an order value of circa £2 million and an 85-unit housing development for Deeley Construction with an order value of circa £2 million to include scaffolding.
Recently completed projects that we have worked on are Fitzroy House, St Andrews Hospital for Galliford Try, a care home in Bicester for Churchill Retirement, Ely Leisure Centre for Pellikaan and a 66-bed care home for LNT Construction.
